Snarkitecture

I was doing research on an artist (Daniel Arsham) at work today and came across something called “Snarkitecture.” It’s his collaboration with Alex Mustonen and is described on their website:
“Snarkitecture is a collaborative practice operating in territories between the disciplines of art and architecture. Working within existing spaces or in collaboration with other artists and designers, the practice focuses on the investigation of structure, material and program and how these elements can be manipulated to serve new and imaginative purposes. Searching for sites within architecture with the possibility for confusion or misuse, Snarkitecture aims to make architecture perform the unexpected.”
Daniel Arsham has a strong history of collaborating with choreographers like Merce Cunningham and Jonah Bokaer on set designs for performances, and I think it’s really interesting how in this endeavor he’s positioning public/installation/performance art as a means of making architecture “perform.”
I thought their 2011 performance and installation (Dig) at the Storefront for Art and Architecture sounded the most interesting…
