Digital Witnesses

By | November 1, 2014

What is data? Is it real? Can we feel it or control it haptically? Databases are the source of what we refer to as the digital medium. They are the foundations, the brick and mortar building blocks of any digital infrastructure. But how are these systems conceived? How do they operate and interact wirelessly in the 21st century? These are all questions that we will be exploring together when we come to examine databases next week. We will also discuss how we use data, and will look at some interesting examples such as the ‘Bear71’ interactive web documentary completed by the National Film Board of Canada, the link to which is posted here. Feel free to have a look and explore the system before class next week!
